Beat the Heat @ the Schulenburg Public Library.

Boy Scouts at Story Hour

readingMr. Alfonso Sirilo Scout Master read to the group of  23 parents and children attending. Jonathan Sirilo and Noah Sirilo also read. Jonathan Sirilo also went over some first aid tips for summer and demonstrated knots as well. Each child made  their own personal first aid kit, practiced tying knots and  reiceived a packet containing first aid tips, examples of knot tying and asst. coloring pages. Before leaving all those attending were treated to trail mix and punch.

Local Library Reports on Activities.
The Schulenburg Public Library invites everyone to come by and get a good book to read since there is still a chill in the air.
Patrons have donated books, newspapers, magazines and other items. Making these donations were Jan Joyner, Jeannette Gouldsberry, Colonial Care Center, Joe Caddou, Olivia Sotello, Karen Kubos, Edward Kubos, Zoe and Mary Zeller, Cherie Jones, Martha, Zach, Guy and Danielle Skeleton, Austin Caldwell, Sharron Burns, Chyla Stewart, Crystal Knowles, Ann Arvour, Linda Bretting and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870.
Volunteering at this time were Gloria Clifford, Jon Bebee, Lynne Holle and AmeriCorps volunteer Barbara Carter.
The Fayette County Retired Teachers Association donated these new childrens books: Marley and Me, Dewey the Decimal Cat, Some Smug Slug, The Pout Pout Fish, Splat the Cat, Pinkalicious, If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, Bats at the Library, Bear Feels Scared, Over the River and the Wild Little Horse.
Memorials are as follows: Cindy Lytle and Donna Holub in memory of Sis Bosl, Carolyn Janda and Johnny Rainsosek.
Mike Buras from the Central Texas Library System installed four new computers, the software to go with them, and updated the existing computers. The new computers were purchased from the Loan Star Grant Fund.
The Library has the following tax forms available: 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, and numerous others. The ones that we do not have are available online at irs.gov. You can get them at the library for 10cents a page.
We welcome all the new patrons. Welcome!!

Dragonsized Fun @ the Library!

This past week’s story hour was full of Dragonsized fun! The children went on a Dragon Scavenger Hunt through the library. At the end of the hunt the children received a “Dragon Treat” (bookmark & lollipop). Then they listened to dragon stories, followed by a snack of delicious cookies & punch.

Boy Scouts Visit the Library

The Schulenburg Boy Scouts Troop 210 made their annual visit to the Schulenburg Public Library this past Saturday, July 12, 2008. Jonathan Sirilo read a camping story and the children later watched a video of the boys attending their summer camp in Oaklahoma. Later they enjoyed the traditional snack of watermelon provided by the scouts on the patio.

Library Receives LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program Grant

The Schulenburg Public Library received a $25,000 community development grant. The grant, provided by LCRA, will be used towards the building of the new library.
The community grant is one of a number of grants recently awarded through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program. The program provides economic development and community assistance grants to cities, counties, volunteer fire departments, regional development councils, and other non-profit organizations in LCRA’s electric and water sevice areas as part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves. The City of Schulenburg is one of LCRA’s wholesale electric customers and a partner in the grant program.

Fayette County Republican Women Give Books to Library!

The Fayette County Republican Women’s organization has purchased and placed four children’s books in the Schulenburg Public Library through the Barbara Bush Literacy Project. Since Barbara Bush founded this project on March 6, 1989, many Republican women’s organizations have placed books in libraries, schools and shelters throughout the United States in support of the Barbara Bush Literary Project. The four books received byt the library are Woodrow the White House Mouse, President Adams’ Alligator and other White House Pets, and Woodrow for President by Peter W. Barnes and Cheryl Shaw Barnes; and Washingtons, D.C. ABCs by Carla Holembe, Cheryl Shaw Barnes and Peter W. Barnes.
